Lucknow, Aug 21 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh has now become the leading state in the country in the field of new and renewable energy.
Disclosing this on X about solar energy on Akshay Urja Diwas, the state's Urban Development and Energy Minister AK Sharma said, “In the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, Uttar Pradesh has secured the first position among all the states with 27,771 rooftop solar installations in the month of July 2025. Not only this, UP is number one in installations per day.”
The Energy Minister further wrote that with a total of 196,327 installations so far, UP is in the third position after Gujarat and Maharashtra. “We are moving towards becoming the top state soon,” he said.
The minister added that UP was already in the first position in registration also. Sharing the data from 2017 to 2025, he wrote, “The total solar energy capacity in UP has also increased significantly. In 2017, the energy capacity was 389 MW. Whereas in 2022 it increased to 2,244 MW and in 2025 it has increased to 5,157 MW.”
AK Sharma said that UP also became a leading state in bioenergy projects. With a production capacity of 230 tonnes per day, the state was number one in the country in the production of Compressed Bio Gas (CBG).
